The gorgeous InRhythm crew of Sydney is organising a free community drum circle Sunday 7 February 2010 in Centennial Park. Bring your drum (we'll bring a few as well, for those yet to start their djembe family), a chair and a picnic, and make a relaxing Sunday afternoon of it.

What’s the sound of 12 Russians drumming? Stronger than Vodka! by beau

by Beau and Flor Mayeli Rojas

bali drumming_retreat.gif I just met a super cool group of Russian chicks, grooving in Bali, pouring out passion, fun and excitement! What a wonderful surprise…and no vodka to be found! I used to go out a lot and meet with a lot of people here in Bali. Yet I must say I had never seen such a group of people, genuinely having so much fun from their souls, like beautiful, playful kids. It was a great experience to watch and to live! They were playing the drums, dancing and singing to the rhythm of a beat that was addictive. And here I was supporting the InRhythm drum circle on the beach to sunset.

Something that really got my attention was to see their contentment with life. When I initially came in contact with them at the beginning of the evening with no drums in the scene, I thought they looked like yogis, all peaceful, portraying some sort of inner peace. As the evening went on though, and as we eventually asked them to join us drumming, they switched from peaceful to vivacious. How cool! I don’t know what was stronger: the power of the drums, or the joy of these people! I guess it was both. My lover always says that drums have the power of carrying you away… I certainly hear truth in his words.

InRhythm Drumming Classes Hit South Australia by beau

Hello community,

Due to the popularity of the recent drumming classes in South Australia, InRhythm will be setting off again to Adelaide  as part of their national tour offering a broad cross section of the local community the opportunity to engage with one another, in rhythm, on the African Drums.

“We are really keen to actually help communities create something that is sustainable and ongoing in their lives rather than just cruising through town and offering a one off session that is never followed up. The best way for us to do this is offer locals the opportunity to meet each other and hook up with like minded groups in their local area” Tim Orgias says.

If you love the way music changes peoples live check out "El Sistema" by beau

Hey guys, I just came back from the Balinale International Film Festival which takes place in Bali, Indonesia at this time of the year. One film that really plucked at my heart strings was "El Sistema".

"El Sistema is a network of children and youth orchestras, music centres and workshops in Venezuela in which more than 250,000 children and young people are currently learning to play an instrument. It was set up over 30 years ago by Jose Antonio Abreu, who was driven by the uptopian vision of a better future. The film shows how Abreu's astonishing ideas have led the way out of the vicious circle of poverty - and how the power of music has been able to change the lives of hundreds of thousands of young people." For more info visit the film's website
