Team Building Drumming in Singapore by Jac

Beau Bruderlin was recently asked by "Mypaper", a Singapore-based newspaper, about InRhythm's corporate drumming and how it is being embraced by companies. Here we reproduce that article:

How is team-building achieved through drumming activities?

Team building is achieved through interactive drumming on many levels. The interactive drumming is used as an analogy as to what it takes to build and enjoy a great team. There is the common pulse that connects every team member together. The common pulse allows every team member to play their part within a structure that is respected by the entire team. When everyone respects the common pulse, each team member can become very effective at playing their role.

Interactive drumming shows team members how crucial it is that the entire team listens and communicates with each other. If there is no listening or communication, the team (the music) does not work in harmony. By listening to each team member, each person can then relate to each other person and in that state of being can create effective communication that allows productivity, creativity, problem-solving and logical and lateral thinking.

Group drumming also shows how each department of  company relies on each other in order for the whole company to work. By learning this through rhythm, team members can find a new respect and appreciation for each other.

Group drumming is also powerful as a team building exercise because all team members create the music together and in that they feel a sense of acheivement, cooperation and accomplishment.

The most important reason why group drumming is a powerful team building exercise is that the experience for team members drumming together creates a very real sense of community. Community is at the core of a successful team. Strong communities are powerful.

What organisations in Singapore have signed up for these activities?

Companies and organisations from every sector sign up for group drumming. Afterall, they are communities and require that everyone feel connected and feel a sense of belonging and support.

How are these team building activities different from usual team building activities?

InRhythm Store... Grand Opening! by Jac

We are so proud! InRhythm is finally opening its very first store and drumming space. Tim's been working hard to deck it out and our crew are busy making gorgeous new djembes to make this store a music-lover's delight!

Because we're so excited about our store and space, we want to share the joy with you! On 22 August we will hold a GRAND STORE OPENING with a whole day full of FREE activities.

The InRhythm store's Grand Opening will include special guests such as Guinean Master Drummer Sibo Bangoura to teach a drum workshop. The effervescent Rachel Bangoura will then run an African dance workshop. InRhythm's The Drop will perform, and we'll also run a drum circle.

Where: InRhythm store, 8 Henry Parry Dr, East Gosford
When: 10.30am, Sunday 22 August 2010
What to bring: Your drum (if you have one, we'll have some available if you don't) and your dancing shoes!

We will also be utilising the space in the East Gosford Progress Hall on the day. This will be a full-house, no bookings event - be on time to take part in all the fun of the day.

Sydney - Are you ready to CHALLENGE yourself? by Jac

After some deliberation, we've decided that alongside our Drum and Yoganew course structure, we will maintain an intermediate course aimed specifically at those who want something a little bit different.

This course will still run, like all InRhythm classes, as an empowering and inspiring present-moment exercise, but will also provide you with a unique experience to broaden your skills and introduce you to even more rhythmic possibilities.

While we solidify our plans for Term 3 and beyond (you're going to love it!), this term's Intermediate/Advanced class will look at composition skills and will work with Ben to create a new set of djembe rhythms that challenge and complement your skills.

Thursday nights in Eastern Suburbs (venue tbc).
